Legendary actress Idowu Philips, popularly known as mama Rainbow, is a Nigerian veteran actress. Born on 16 October 1942 at Ijebu Ode, a city in Ogun State, southwestern Nigeria. She got her stage name “mama Rainbow” from “Osumare” (meaning “rainbow” in British English). She stem from the theatre group of Sir Hubert Ogunde, who died in 1990.
She worked as a certified nurse in general hospitals in Nigeria for several years and occasionally acted in theatre. She ventured into full-time acting after the death of her husband – Augustine Ayanfemi Phillips who worked closely with the late patriarch of Nigerian Film Industry Sir Hubert Ogunde and was blessed with five children.
She has featured in several Nigerian films like: Back to Africa, Lagidigba, Jesu Mushin, N150 Million, Fila Daddy, Okun ife, Ògìdán, Agbefo, Kootu olohun, Akoto olokada, Èebúdolá tèmi amongst others.
Mama Rainbow is currently one of the brand ambassador of one of Nigeria’s leading telecommunications company (Airtel) and also the face of Yotomi estate, a real estate company.
