WILL BIDEN BUDGE? $400/$300 Unemployment Extension SSDI SSI Stimulus Update PUA FPUC Weekly Benefits

The great state of New York recently announced that they have created a new online tool to combat unemployment fraud, ensuring that these vital jobless benefits are hitting the correct bank accounts of eligible claimants in the Big Apple.

The Department of Labor explained in a press release: “NY DOL is using ID.me’s secure online technology to verify the identity of some unemployment insurance (UI) and (PUA) applicants. This new tool allows New Yorkers to safely and efficiently submit their identity documentation.”

The DOL also claimed that they have identified over 500,000 fraudulent unemployment claims and stopped over $6.4 billion from going out the door to the wrong people over the past 12 months.

Meanwhile, a new report from ADP shows that during the month of February, 117,000 jobs were added to private payrolls.

Unfortunately, this was down from the 177,000-job increase that economists from Refinitv estimated in the study.

Nela Richardson, chief economist at ADP, explained: “The labor market continues to post a sluggish recovery across the board. We’re seeing large-sized companies increasingly feeling the effects, while job growth in the goods-producing sector pauses.

She also stated that leisure and hospitality jobs are finally increasing, stating: “The service sector remains well below its pre-pandemic levels. However, this sector is one that will likely benefit the most over time with reopenings and increased consumer confidence.”

This is great to see hundreds of thousands of jobs added to the workforce just in the month of February, and I hope that we’ll see even more positions added during the month of March.

Finally, President Biden is making concessions on his $1.9 trillion stimulus package as the bill is set to be discussed today in the Senate, but is drawing a line in the sand and won’t budge on his offer of weekly $400 extended enhanced unemployment benefits.

In a call last night with Senate Democrats, Biden expressed his thoughts on sticking to the weekly $400 FPUC unemployment benefits, stating that they may have to swallow policy decisions to get the deal done quickly.

Senator Ben Cardin explained: “I would say he was stressing the urgency of the bill. There are still open issues when it comes to unemployment insurance and he finds $400 certainly reasonable.”

Those open issues include adding another month to the enhanced unemployment benefits, extending them through the end of September.

With talks starting today in the Senate over President Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus bill, it’s great to see him standing firm on providing millions of Americans with much needed, weekly $400 extended enhanced unemployment benefits.

If you still haven’t applied for unemployment assistance, get over the hump and apply today.

Visit your state’s PUA or UI website, show them your employment history and ID, and explain that you’ve been out of work due to that thing out there, if that’s the case.
